Inheritance of Properties from Parents in DHTML

HTML tags will generally inherit the styles of any tags they are nested within. For instance, the example below does not affect the bold font face of text but merely emphasises the characters and makes them larger.

B {font-size: larger; font-style: italic; }

On the contrary the next example below will change bold font characters to normal.

B {font-weight: normal; }

Thus inherited properties can be altered (over-ridden) and specialised upon by adding to them.
